Sintra Palace - detail

Sintra (Portugal)

This picture was taken quite early in the morning when the mountain on which the palace is built was still engulfed in fog. It's especially the unreal quality the fog gives to this image that I like, together with the rather unusual, Disney-style design, of the palace.

Beautiful, Julian, outstanding composition and that fog takes it into a dream-world...Bee

For me this evokes an almost nostalgic feeling, as if it were taken in a past age.

Its got a *painterly* sort of feel to it, which really suits the mood. Good composition with the wall leading the eye in.

You are perfectly right of course. I dug up the original file and I had indeed some extra sky at the top. How careless of me to crop it off just at the end of the needle. Thanks for the tip.

This is art! I would have liked to have been able to see the top of the spire, unless of course it was so high that it would have ruined the composition. I just feel like the little tip was snipped off. I think if it were my shot I would have found myself cloning just a fraction of an inch of sky at the very edge of the frame to get the feeling of completeness, the illusion that the entire spire was included. Now that's being very picky on a truly outstanding images that I feel is one of the best ever posted here! ~ Lonnit
