bridges in the mist (*)

Montreal, Canada

view of the Champlain bridge and the Ice Bridge (Estacade) from Nun's Island on a cold february morning just after dawn. the mist is rising from the portion of the St. Lawrence river that is not iced over.

Champlain bridge: completed 1962. ~3.5km in length. clearance above the St. Lawrence Seaway is ~37m. crossed by ~49million vehicles/ year.
ice bridge: completed 1965, ~2km long. used as a bicycle path.

thanks for the comments.. didn't have a chance to try your suggestions.. if the opportunity ever presents itself to take this picture again i might try including more of the vegetation and the skiers' tracks in the foreground (if they are there.. is it still called cross-country skiing if you are on a frozen river? :) )

I have to echo Garrett's comments. Great lighting and scene. I have an alternate composition - a narrow pano crop with a band of blue water, the fog, and then the bridge itself.

This is a beautiful scene, with wonderful lighting. However, it would have more impact if the bridge did not cut the picture in half. You should place it higher or lower, depending on what you want to emphasize. I personally would place it higher and include more of the vegetation in the foreground. --Garrett
