This is the causeway (another name for bridge) that connects Granite Island with the mainland at Victor Harbor, South Australia. Granite Island used to be an important Port that at the time, shipped out produce from Australia's agricultural inland regions. During the 1800's, Paddle-steamers on the Murray River would collect wool, grain etc. from Bullock drays from farms near and far. It would then be off-loaded from the paddle-steamers onto a train at Goolwa. The train would then make its way to Granite Island, via this Causeway and then to the rest of the world. Here endeth the history lesson.
It is now used to take a horse-drawn tram for tourists to and from the island.
