I'd agree it is flat. Could have done with some fill in flash. An easy fix? In photoshop copy the entire image and paste it on top of itself on a new layer. Set the new layer blending mode to *Screen* to give you an instant correction! Flatten the image then add a little saturation to the overall pic (in adjust hue/saturation - move saturation to about +40) and you'll get those christmas lights popping and some warmer wood! Purely IMHO of course.

Lighting in the foreground is flat, but the star shaped sparkles on the xmas lights came out great.
