Don't try this at home. Shortcuting high voltage cables can be highly dangerous... ;)

Great, the sparkle is well conserved. You got the exposure spot-on with this one. I had a similiar idea but after seeing this photo I realized my attempts would be superfluous.

Nice comments from experienced photographs makes me really happy.
When I did that pic it was already quite late at night and it's not so easy with a powershot G1 to focus correctly, use a bad quality tripod, and see ur wife thinking u are crazy :-)
As for the proportion, the better image I took over 4 burning attempts was this one, but my hand wasn't exactly in the center. That's why the proportion are a bit too "narrow".
Anyway, it was fun :) That's more important

We call these things sparklers, and I can appreciate how good this photos is cos I tried to photograph some and it was hard to get it without a big white blown highlight in the centre. Very well done! Would like to see it cropped a bit less tight though......have more space around the sparkles.

In fact I used some sparkling stick (dunno exactly how in english)that are used for coktail or dessert.
I cut it a bit to make it smaller and insert in into the cable. I tried to hide the body by puting a small cable in front:)
