Emotions in the internet age ? (*)

Milton Keynes, UK

I was probably inspired by Steve's 'Eligible' image for the Exhibition gallery with this one. Got me thinking how 'smilies' and other 'emoticons' are the way we express emotions on the internet these days. I wasn't going to do it but I ran the idea by Jadzia today and she effectively dared me ;) The other images in this gallery show emotions you can't express in a 'chatroom' or email so I'm glad to say I think real life emotions are here to stay !

Canon PowerShot S50
Bit of touching up, USM, rotation etc. Had to do some work to get a white background like that with camera flash and a blue wall!! Thanks to Iso for i) inspiration to use white backgrounds and ii) tips on how to achieve them. full exif

haha....many thanks chaps for the comments - much appreciated. When the challenge is over i'll show you the original. As I took it on self timer I didn't even have anything to focus on. I'll post on photosig now - I'd like to know what the technicals were (though I think I can guess as I had trouble with some bits!!!!) Oh and re: stock image - once i'd had the idea (honestly) I did a quick search on 'emoticon' on google images and at least 2 companies have already used such an image on their websites !!!! Paul D.

Not only are you taller than I imagined, your complexion is a lot paler than I thought ;-)

Very funny and kind of amazing how well it came out considering the equipment you employed. I can see where multiple light sources/diffused light would help with some of the shadows, but works very well in the absence of these tools, too. Maybe I don't need that 300D after all...

59 seconds well spent. Fab idea. Yeah a few minor technicals with the cutout, but with a blue wall you done good. Composition great. Suit works - bit like those stock catalogue shots for business icons you see. I'd have been pleased to have shot this myself. No - I'm annoyed that I didn't shoot this myself LOL. In a studio this would have been perfection (well to my own tastes anyway). I'd actually say for an on camera flash this has come out really great for colour. Is it on Sig yet? I'm off to look for it. When you coming to visit my studio then?
