Where is the Sun?

Estes Park, Colorado

I found this little guy while I was searching for the fall foliage. It was just growing out of nowhere into the river. It did upright itself just enough to get some sun.

Canon EOS 1D ,Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

  • f/32 @ 1.6 second.

  • Evaluative metering with -1 compensation.

  • Auto white balance.

The image was shifted to the right in Photoshop for better composition. The blank areas were cloned and the seams were then smoothed. The left most part of the stem is another clone as well.

This is definately a "calender" picture. It conveys lonelines but with a tenacious instinct for survival and looking for the postive in the situation - in this case the sun. The background also hints at storms adding to the above feeling I get from this pic.

Thanks, Pops. Instead of cropping, I frankensteined the image.

Ray, One of beauties of comments is that you've got an opportunity to modify the image and update during the challenge. I did it to two pictures in the last challenge and both were improved. So, if you like the idea of a different crop you can do it and update the image. It's up to you.

Simple and sweet, this is lovely. Amazing how tenacious some little plants are.

Good idea, Pops. I would also like to get that bottom leaf, too, but that is harder to do now. ;)

Great detail on the flower. I would have trimmed off a bit more on the right, but that's just me.
