I hate skipping breakfast!

Canberra, Australia

This guy skipped more than just breakfast. Legend has it that years ago at Royal Military College Duntroon, Staff Cadet Casey, a member of IV class, was skylarking prior to departure of the Corps on Christmas leave and was inadvertently locked in a broom closet. He was not missed from the leave draft and remained in the cupboard until the Corps returned to RMC the following year

Casey's skeleton was found but his ghost still haunts the corridors and cavities of RMC. As he will never graduate, to appease his spirit, a place is set for him at every Graduation Dinner and his skeleton is present at each Graduation Ball. The horse he rides is called 'Invader'.

The skeleton is displayed in the staff cadets mess, gracing the entrance to "Casey's Bar".

A minor tweak in the levels palette in Photoshop would improve this slightly, but not much. It's the last kind of image I expected to turn up in this challenge! I like the way it's shot from an unusual angle.

Gayle, don't you just hate the compromises of photography - i'm slowly learning what they are. I figured it must have been the best shot in the circumstances - and it sounds like most people would have had trouble getting a shot this good with all that to contend with ! You might want to look at EXIFER re: EXIF data getting dropped - I had same prob with photoshop doing same thing. I must take a look at this neatimage thing. Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul, yeah, you're right it probably is a bit dark and a touch soft. The skeleton was in a glass case in a very dimly lit room. I couldn't use a flash, so had to wedge the camera up against the side of the case and hold it very, very still. This was the best out of about 6 shots, but it's such a great story that I really wanted to enter it. This one was taken in portrait mode, which bumped the ISO up high. It had quite a lot of noise in the original, so I ran it through Neat Image which removed the noise but also removed the EXIF data. Gayle

Gayle, great story - prob my favourite story of the challenge. Not taking breakfast has to be the thing this guy would hate the most if he could speak! My *only* criticism about this is that something looks a bit soft/out of focus about it, maybe a bit dark too (the skull in particular) and I don't have the technical knowledge to say exactly what, or to know whether under the circumstances it could be any different. Glad you posted it though, and hope you agree with the critique.
