I like the layers of tilt - light to dark - and the blur. This is a very interesting photo that I'm enjoying alot. Penny Street

This was shot with me lying on the concrete on my side. Besides that fact that I needed the extra length the diagonal provides, in order to fit the whole board into the frame, I feel that the tilt adds to the dreamy surrealness of the image. We are left behind in the reality of the focused area where he started, and he is off, on his own, in the privilege of child, into the magical world of childhood summer fun. He's off into a world of no responsibilities, nothing to think about but the freedom of the moment, anticipating the splash of the cool, refreshing water - jumping with wild abandon.

I love that the image is all about mood. This image was not cropped, nor was it PPed with any change in focus. This is just how it came out of the camera. I am enthralled with the the water droplets glistening around his feet. It is so very magical to me. With nothing in the image but the essentials, we are left to delve into our own imaginations, our own pasts, to fill in the missing parts with our own, making it more real to us, and not just the story of a specific kid jumping off a specific diving board at a specific pool. I love soft focus images for just that reason - they are all about mood.

No, Jano, I wasn't going for the water splashes, I was just going for the whole wonder of magical summers. Those glistening little droplets just add to the feeling. Debi, it's not about the movement - it's about him being in another world that we are no longer part of. Our part of the world is clear, his is completely out of focus. We are left in reality, with all of our adult responsibilities, and he is off to his world of freedom and bliss.

TV, I love what you said. You're really getting it!

Thanks all!!!! ~ Lonnit

I'm in the Lonnit fan club but this is a no go for me too. It looks like it was tilted only to make it compositionally correct. I actually like the DOF as is though becasue it stresses the fact that those feet are indeed about to get wet. -Doug

I think just a tad more DOF Lonnit and this would become clear. I think you are going after the water splashes from the diving board?? If not correct me. But even without the tad little dof, this speaks wet to me. I like the soft coloring. jano

Sorry sis, but sever cropping + major tilt doesn't equal Good :)

The tilt is better here but the soft focus PP may not be needed. Looks pretty but the movement loses impact - Debi

Not wet yet but getting there. I like the time context here with the focus on the board where she's been, which draws attention to the empty spot and leaves us doing a delayed double take as her feet leave the board. -tv
