Thanks to the terrible twins, Debi & Dougy:-) Geez 2,000,000 years to break down & only 40 years to kill ya. Debi this is a serious ahrt picy so don't talk about eyes popping out & all that stuff. You have to do a Tommy type monologue for these sort of picys a:-)

This looks better and the bins looks like as if they are eyes popping out - Debi

I didn't see it before but it looks great now. There is some irony here too since it takes those cigarette filters about 2,000,000 years to break down. I real tree hugger would recognize that and grow their own smokes. -Doug

Thanks Brent:-) I really didn't want to spend money on one of those calibrator thingys but I really should put the time in & calibrate at least with Adobe gamma & other places on the net can get me into a ball park look on the monitor. This Dell has a very good panel but it comes way over brightened & over saturated which the reviews said was fine for gamers but hopeless for doing picys & colour accuracy. The reviews said once calibrated with the Spyder or similar thingy it was quite accurate. I would really like to get ballpark at least without coughing up about $300 or more.

This looks much better on my screen now Rod- just a bit more detail to be see in the shadows.

I've lightened it up so hope it looks a bit better.

I think I've seen part of the problem, I've just had a look at this picy on the missus laptop puter & it looks darker than it does on my monitor. My prints do print darker than what I see on my monitor so I will have a play & see if I can fix it.

Thanks Tommy:-) Maybe it depends on the artists we liked looking at. Most of us like Bressons work & I think he was about the only one I can think of that didn't have that darkish look. The lazy bugger never even developed his own picys. I will have another look at me books & refresh myself on the names of me favourites back then.

I see that Oz makes an example of equality at all levels including trash - cigarette butts get the same elegent containers as the recycling. I'm going to go renew my recollection of the old masters of photography because except for deliberate moody effect which did happen frequently, I don't recall the dark bg being quite typical. This looks like a parody on a scene from an old bw sci-fi movie - early R2D2's. -tv

Thanks Penny & Brent:-) I seem to get a few comments about dark, I wonder if it's being sort of old school in a way. A little while ago I went back through my old books from the 70s & most all B&W have a really dark look except for the focal point being lighter. That doesn't mean it's right what I'm doing but I suppose I've been influenced by these early images plus the fact that I'm not doing them nearly so well as the picy gods a:-)

do they talk? Maybe this is what the world is coming to. Thanks for the suggestion, Rod, and I like the picy too. Penny Street

So this is where you smoke and drink beer with a place for the remnants eh Rod? The B&W looks nice- maybe just a tad dark.
