If I remember right, I think Matisse also used big cut-out letters for his circus paintings.

You set the standard to beat with #3.

Lydia was saying she hated agreeing with me Penny, not your picy...............I think:-)
Maybe that's why I'm not appreciating this Picy Tommy, I missed the whole of the Matisse middle period......Me & the misus went to the pictures (movies):-)

Of course it doesn't have the impact of No 3, but I like the balance here and different pallet. Lots of coloristic balancing acts - like the patch of vivid yellow orange in the upper right corner with just enough spots of yellow cropping up elsewhere to offset it. This is a technique especially observable in Matisse's midperiod work: a blast of color in one area balanced by a sprinkling of the same color elsewhere. -tv

Short of cloning them out, which would be impossible, I couldn't think of what to do about those blasted letters except to inverse the whole picture so that they read backwards (yes, I learned something new today).
Hate is a strong word, Lydia, especially coming from you but I appreciate the honesty. Thanks guys. I may go back and take another look at this, but there's probably nothing I can do to make it better. I liked the colors.

As an abstract, this does not work as well for me. It seems more like a mirror reflection when you can read the letters so easily. The distortion of the letters in the lower 1/6 of the picture look more abstract. Great city shot though. CJ

Erm Brent me & Lydia luv the bottom of the picy that's why we want more of it:-)
ctfchallenge01-Mar-2009 02:05
I find it more difficult to see abstraction when there are letters, but having them backwards really helps here Penny. Seems like the bottom works better for me than it does for Rod and especially Lydia. This is a very nice image but just not quite as nice as your previous one which is a hard act to follow. More good work :-)

Actually, weirdly enough, I totally agree with Rod. And I hate it. ~Lydia

The backwards writing helps with the abstract but there's something that makes me want more of what's below. It seems to start getting really interesting at that bottom bit but obviously I imagine it stopped otherwise you may have shot lower. I'm still on a high after seeing #3 so I will have to calm down & look at this again with fresh eyes.
