This picy and Equestrian_3 (from exhibition) are my favorites from all the images you've posted in this challenge. They're keepers. Great job, Aam.

Thank you lady and gentlemen, appreciate your comments. Sue Anne, all were shot with the 100-400. I was telling Rod that I need the f2.8 to blur the b/g more (and to get faster SS).

Excellent action shot Aam. Your equestian work is always excellent so you chose the perfect topic. -Doug

Which lens did you use here, the one listed here or the 70-200mm f4 L. ?
aam1234 01-Mar-2009 15:05
Yes, but you have position yourself for that FL.
Rod 01-Mar-2009 10:42
Is the 70-200 long enough for these events?
aam1234 01-Mar-2009 09:14
Thanks sue anne. Rod, I agree with you about the b/g, that's why I'm thinking of selling the 70-200 f4 (to my nephew at a discount) and buying f2.8 IS. Cheers.

Excellent action !

The jump horse & rider came out really nicely but the background looks too busy for the composition to work. Is there a way to get a picy like this with a bokeh or very blurred background?
aam1234 28-Feb-2009 06:55
Thanks Penny and Tom. Penny, these events are open to the public (for free), so you can go there as a spectator or as photographer.

Good catch Aam. Perfect topic for that lens. -tv

I really like the look of the rail and her look of determination. Nice one!
I'm curious what your participation is with all these equestrian events other than spectator and picture taker, of course).

Thanks CJ and Brent. CJ, I really like this lens. I bought a 1.4x from a friend not long ago but never had a chance to try it. However, the same friend tried his 1.4II on his 1DIII today and was happy with the combo (focusing speed wise). Kindly keep in mind that extenders behave differently on different cameras. Cheers again guys.

Great shot Aam. I like the concentration of the rider and though I don't know much about horses that one does look pretty.

I really like the composition here aam with the gates framing the horse and rider. Great expression of concentration on the rider's face and what a beautiful horse! Nicely blurred background. How do you like the 100-400mm and did you ever try or compare the 70-200mm with a 1.4x or 2x extender for these kinds of shots? CJ

Thanks guys. That's a nice compliment Lydia since you know a thing or three about horses. YB, it was taken at the equestrian club where they are practicing for next week's regional/international competition. Hope the 16GB card I ordered arrives on time. Cheers.

Good capture with a nice expression on the riders face. The bars are also well placed - Debi
