It's the emotion (in this case concentration) that makes a candid, IMHO.
I guess the game must have been an exciting one (or not?).

Excellent candid Tommy. It's funny how we can say off topic about one shot where the subject is looking into the camera yet here it's 100% candid with all three looking into the camera, well as far as the viewer is concerned. Great picy mate.
Thanks guys and Kiki for the comments. These three are probably quite unaware they are being photographed. Their attention is on a Pétangue ball rolling down the court from right to left. I have another shot of them looking right. As the ball came closer to my position, their heads followed toward me. The camera has a hinged lcd on the back for right angle viewing, is completely silent, and was on a table pointing at them as I also watched the rolling ball out of th ecorner of my eye. -tv

I recognize that expression when people notice me taking a shot.
Love the angle the shot was take - makes the expressions hover between contempt and tolerance.
This is an excellent candid shot. It does not matter are the photographed people looking into the camera or not. They are "living their lifes" ignoring or accepting you as photographer. A very well shot telling so much.

This also works as a candid.. in spite of all *three* of them looking into the camera. It works, because it looks like a genuine street scene. Because the three don't seem to have anything to do with each other, in spite of sharing bench, attention and mostly the pose too. The slight difference in expressions reveal glimpses of character, they all react differently to being photographed. One looks slightly grumpy, one slightly amused, and one slightly skeptic. A genuine moment. Fun to ponder what would happen next, if you'd continued taking pictures of them. I imagine #1 would have remained attentive but seated, saying nothing. #2 would have addressed you, and #3 would have turned/walked away. Or not lol :)
