Thanks Mary Anne:-)

Nicely shot, Rod. The angle of light is perfect, as well as the black background. I can just see all of us going out and buying pieces of black velvet!
--Mary Anne
Rod 25-Jan-2009 05:41
Because it's always her fault.
ctfchallenge25-Jan-2009 05:07
why do you insist on blaming everything on Mereana?
Penny Street
Rod 25-Jan-2009 01:27
Mereana hadn't done the washing yet.
ctfchallenge24-Jan-2009 16:29
Why dont you just put it in a bowl? - Debi
Rod 24-Jan-2009 05:59
Thanks Girls:-) Because this isn't the most expensive yoghurt (ie cheap) It comes in such a nondescript container I had to lay it over plus we can see the the yoghurt too. I like the spoon too.
ctfchallenge24-Jan-2009 04:08
This has a more casual look to it but it makes me wonder what happened here. Did someone have an emergency and have to leave in a rush almost spilling their yogurt? So many questions! I think I like this one better too. CJ
ctfchallenge24-Jan-2009 04:02
I'm sad that it lost it's tilt. But I like the spoon and the reflection. And, overall, the composition looks better. That black cloth works wonders. Penny Street
Rod 21-Jan-2009 05:50
Thanks Troy:-) D my cotton is quite flat with no sheen, I think in the old days black velvet was preferred as a black background. I imagine a cheap velvet look alike would do the trick too.
Guest 20-Jan-2009 23:13
Thanks Rod. I think the material I use, although black, has a sheen to it so my shots are not nearly as nice as yours. I guess I'll have to go find some new material. ~dtallakson

Fantastic Shot Rod. You did good.
Rod 20-Jan-2009 09:26
Thanks Doug & D:-) I only like me yoghurt out of the best crystal Doug:-) This is just black cotton material D. Mereana made me a backdrop thingy that has about five different colour cloths about 5' x 4' attached to three wooden pieces on hinges that folds up & rolls up to go in a small bag. The only bugger is it gets a few creases in it which I normally don't bother about & just clone them out but for this shot I did iron it. I could see a bit of detail in the cloth that was facing the cieling but after using the curves tool which sort of bumps the contrast & lowers the brightness the black cloth goes quite dark. I normally finish off by using the burn tool set on shadows & just sweep over the blacks some more.

Rod, what did you use as a backdrop? I've tried different things and nothing as worked well for me. ~dtallakson

You sure live the high life Rod. Did you make your wife spoon it out of the carton and into the glass before you ate it? It's nice to see you finally dabbling a bit in set up shots. -Doug
Rod 19-Jan-2009 05:48
Thanks Penny & Tommy:-) Yes Penny I have one of these in me lunch box every day. I really don't put the effort into set up picys as me hearts not in it. The only thing I tried to do here was create a sort of tension wiv the slope of the empty lid top, the carton & then the spoon to counteract the poncy posh glass.

I always see something redeeming in even your most boring shots. Sometimes it takes some time which means my valuable time which is frustrating but ultimately rewarding in finding what it is that you have ( sometimes unconsciously ) hidden there. First what makes this one boring is the diagonal thrust of the composition without any offset or counterthrust (just thinking Freudian context since Carole brought it up). OK, so we have your boring diet luncheon (or is it a boring diet breakfast) cycle? Nope I don't think that's redeeming. But finally we find the grassy graphic design on the label that seems to be growing out of the background - whew... finally.. a redeeming visual element that explains your unprecedented use of pure black bg. Well done. -tv

PS I didn't mean the photo should go to the garbage can. It just looked like the food was headed in that direction. Penny Street
ctfchallenge18-Jan-2009 15:37
do you eat this or is it Lydia food? Penny Street
PS. I love the diagonal going straight down to the garbage can (now there's an idea).
Rod 17-Jan-2009 23:17
Thanks Carole:-) I'm really too slack for set up picys & don't make the most of em. The sooner it's over the better:-)
ctfchallenge17-Jan-2009 22:07
Nice picy Rod. Knowing how you hate set up stock type shots, this must have been torture for you to do! :-D Nice side lighting and diagonal composition. CJ
Rod 17-Jan-2009 20:38
Thanks Kiki, Lydia/Rod & Christakis:-) Forgot about the name, thanks Kiki. Well it was fun being Lydia for a day, I even shot a lot of lizards & frogs picys...............None of em turned out any good & I nearly got me finger bit off:-)
Guest 17-Jan-2009 17:19
Nice and simple.

Rod: Are you going Fraudian on us again? :)
You should change artist name along with the dress.

Rod 17-Jan-2009 05:23
Its back to Rod now D, I've taken the dress off:-)
ctfchallenge17-Jan-2009 04:58
OK...OK...you guys know I'm easily confused. So, this is Rod's picture? Or, has Lydia flown down Oz land to post this picture. Good one Rod...errr....Lydia...errr...Rod.:^) ~dtallakson
Rod 17-Jan-2009 03:32
Hehe, I couldn't resist after Aamm thought I was Lydia when I first posted:-)
Thanks All:-) I hope you still think it's a decent picy.
ctfchallenge17-Jan-2009 03:16
Nice work, Rod lol. Lydia tends to have a more distinct use of negative space though, and where is the egg?! Anyway.. nice diagonal and background :)

aam1234 17-Jan-2009 02:20
Sista Lydia, having a distinctive style is a good thing.
Jim B (MSP)17-Jan-2009 02:11
Very nice. Fine composition, esp with the diagonal. Black background is well done and a good choice.
Jim
Guest 17-Jan-2009 02:08
You were right aam. You can always tell a Lydia shot by its simple elegance. Love the lighting here, Lydia, and how the placement leads your eye up on the diagonal...even to the spoon's handle. Very nice.~dtallakson
Rod 17-Jan-2009 02:08
This is just magnificent Lydia, it works so well wiv no frame too. This will certainly win the challenge.
ctfchallenge17-Jan-2009 02:06
Lydia
Why thank you Amm *grin* *hug* You know my work so well *sigh*
aam1234 17-Jan-2009 02:03
He he, IMG_8606.jpg must be Lydia's. Am I right?
