7th - Squirrel - by Lydia

The walking trail

This guy was way up in a tree with the nut he'd just found and cracked for the meat.

He was kind enough to pose with it for me after he got far enough out of my reach.

I think you could, dt. I did not use a tripod... and I have shakey hands.

Thanks, folks. He IS a charmer, huh? ~Lydia

Very nice Lydia. I don't think I could ever hold that camera still at 1/30s even with IS. Did you use a tripod? I'm guessing you didn't and have very steady hands. ~dtallakson

Very cute pose on your squirrel Lydia with a nice catchlight in his little eye. Great color and detail in the fur and the DOF makes him stand out more from the background. Very nice! :-) CJ

Doesn't look stuffed to me, no dusty eyes, all nice and juicy. Good colors and clarity, perfect sharpening, good composition, everything feels right. And it's a beautiful little eye. Great catchlight and reflection. If this animal is stuffed, I'd like to meet the taxidermist :)

Whoah! I soon as I commented the image suddenly got much better. Won't you agree this looks better with a modest border?
~Brent

Super nice detail on this cute little guy Lydia with ideal DOF. That said, I have to agree with the other blokes- naked would be far better than that distracting border that just mucks up an otherwise fine picy. If you must have one make it a couple of pixels in black only. I will agree that borders are sometimes necessary over at DPChallenge because of the light gray background they use- that isn't the case here.

Ok... Ok!! How about now... This is the very least I can do... *sigh* ~Lydia
ctfchallenge10-Jan-2009 03:37
Sorry Lydia I have to comment that the border here is AWFUL (and silly as any border would be). What it does is take the nature out of the image and make it into a static and stuffed artificial creation in spite of the fine work in the capture. "Naked" is natural. Crammed into a box is stuffed. -tv

Thank you, gentlemen.

Rod, I can't. I just can't. I can't put my stuff up there NAKED! ! ! ~Lydia

Did this guy choke on the nut & die & you stuck it to the tree......I can see dust in its eye:-)
Excellent looking picy with great colouring. Seeing as though you're not scapbooking any more why don't you use a small one colour border & let the excellent picy stand on its own without visual distractions.
