Those black reflections on the bumps in the upper left led me down the wrong path. They looked like voids, hence I thought "sharp edges".

Doh!!!

Gblentz got it...Good job. It's a GE front-loader washing machine. I never thought this one would be so hard!--JC
gblentz 12-Jan-2003 22:05
OK, I looked at it again and experienced a sudden change of perspective. I'm going to guess that it's a washing machine or clothes dryer drum. Furthermore, I'm guessing that the "scratches" are actually clothing fibers and/or hair.

not something to do with rubber?
Guest 12-Jan-2003 05:53
Okay, how about this...textured ceiling or wall in your house? I don't know what you'd call it (which is ridiculous, it's my job to know stuff like that!)...I just realized, I have something like this in the entry to my house.

oops...scratch that...I just read the last few comments...
Guest 11-Jan-2003 04:06
a car...specifically a floor mat?
ctfchallenge11-Jan-2003 04:04
Wow. So far no one has even come close. This is a very common item. The Thimble was the best guess, but the scale's all wrong. Think inside the box, people!!!--JC

This looks very familiar, but I can't figure out what it reminds me of. There are scratches on the surface which generally are aligned in one direction, suggesting something that people walk on in one direction. But an industrial floor was ruled out and that doesn't match the clue. I'm stumped.

An Epilady? ;-)

Is this a running board on a truck or car? Ann
ctfchallenge10-Jan-2003 04:21
Not an airmatress...not a tripod stage...not bubble wrap.

I know, I know! I'm just not sure what it's called...is it the plate that the camera sits on on a tripod?
Guest 10-Jan-2003 02:21
i would say bubble-wrap but it doesn't look quite right for that...
ctfchallenge10-Jan-2003 01:52
Air matress? No. I'd hat to spend a night sleeping on this thing.
ctfchallenge10-Jan-2003 00:48
One of the math tutors here where I work says air mattress. I'll go along with that. Is that it? Ann
ctfchallenge09-Jan-2003 19:05
thimble? NO Way! I'd give you a hint, but I don't think you need it. Everyone's seen this thing.--JC
gblentz 09-Jan-2003 17:03
A sewing thimble?
ctfchallenge09-Jan-2003 16:35
not a wood plane or sander--JC
Jim B (MSP)09-Jan-2003 13:59
Could be a version of a wood plane, or very coarse sander.
ctfchallenge09-Jan-2003 02:54
industrial floor??? Wouldn't that look more like:

Jim B (MSP)09-Jan-2003 02:29
Or a vegetable grater.
