Not quite as innocent as it looks, you recognize the Asian harlequin lady beetle by the pattern on the back of its head, like an M or W, depending on angle :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonia_axyridis

Yes, he was alive and hanging vertically sideways. :) ~Lydia

I like the image, Lydia, but he looks a little beyond his prime. Was he among the living when you took this photo? ~dtallakson

Aamm I forgot the smiley, I was only joking..........Honest:-)
Rod 18-Sep-2008 08:44
Bleeding L Lydia is this still here. Haven't you taken any decent picys this week?

I think some of what you see as not being in a plane is an optical illusion. The lower 'lip' of the light fixture protrudes away from the camera, throwing the angle of vision off a bit. !Lydia

Carole, the 160 is the ISO. I assumed there was no need for the mm since the lens I used is prime. I need to write a bit more in my EXIF, though. I admit it's confusing. I'll fix it. Thanks. ~Lydia

Lydia, is the Exif info you entered correct? I'm confused by the 160 - Is that mm, because if this was taken with your 100mm macro, this would be 100? The blurring does look a little weird doesn't it as it doesn't seem to be in a plane. Cute buggy though! :-) CJ

Wot do you mean Brent? If a lens is set wide open & focused this close you will get a narrow DOF (or sharp focus strips):-) in every shot. Do you get them nearly vertical like this? I imagine this has been shot towards the vertical & rotated. If not there's something radically wrong wiv the lens.

Nicely done Lydia. I get these kind of sharp focused strips with the same lens sometimes too, it just seems to happen once in a while.

I dunno, Rod. I'm just a girl. I put the camera on f/2.8, pointed it at the bug and pushed the little round black button on the front of my camera.

I tilted a bit while doing it... to save some rotating and cropping for later. Girls are lazy that way, you know.

*smile* !Lydia
Rod 13-Sep-2008 02:47
How did you get the DOF to go vertical...............only a girl:-)
ctfchallenge13-Sep-2008 02:27
She was inside an outside light fixture. As she sits. :) !Lydia

Looks just like my Mini Cooper:-) I really like how the grooves create a roadway. The DOF has an unusual orientation - PP or just how you cropped and rotated? - angioman

What I've heard is that it's really hard to tell male or female unless there are two of them together (he he). Nice macro - and even the ladybug has a diagonal look to her!

Haven't you seen "A Bugs Life" Lydia? Not all Lady Bugs are girls. I'm taking a liking to this shot none the less. This is good stuff. -COAmature
