I saw some of these (heard them too) this week. An empty shell was in my driveway. You did a good job on getting the details captured. Great Shot.

You're right Coam. Cicada's (loudest insect in the world) has an interesting life cycle. They live in larval stage in the ground for years (usually eight), then crawl out of the ground (which explains the dirt you see), up a tree, where half way up they break out of the larval shell to become cicada adult form. This is the left over shell, stuck to the tree trunk (sideways). I posted a better pic in pending. -angioman

What the hell...is there some other creature riding along on its claw? Usually bug macros show them to be all clean and metallic plate looking- this guy is a real slob ;-)
