Nice and bold color. Like the geometry here. Sure perhaps I would've preferred no shadow. The lines work for me here.

Damn, Rod. Can't stop coming back to this photo to have a look. Love it.

Hmmmm... OK Rod, I was going to explain the issue I had with the shadow and why I called it bad timing (causing the shadow, I would have prefered no shadow at all, so this photo is 10 min late) but looks like you have your hands full already.

Thanks DT, Kurt, Tommy, Jim & Aamm:-) Kurt I think we need to be a bit careful not to make our picys look too perfect as they can get a sort of boring look to them. So called imperfections are what can make a picy work by introducing some tension, even though I didn't misalign this on purpose I just did it to how it looked good to me. If you have a look over all the great past photographers like Bresson, Robert Frank, etc etc etc you probably won't see any perfect picys as per the rules. Their subject matter & feel etc transcends any tilted verticals or misalignments & the rules we talk about here is the furthest thing from their minds when they shoot. The most important rule in photography is to learn all the rules when you begin & once learnt then forget about them. Learning the rules is only needed to train our eyes into seeing (The art of seeing) Once we have the art of seeing there's no need for any rules & our picys become more individual to ourselves. Mind you the above doesn't mean this picy works because if the misalignment was the first thing to hit you when first viewed then it's indeed a fault as the subject matter has failed to do it's job. Phew, sorry about the long reply mate:-)

I can never out-do you Tom, you are the master of critique :)

Good technical execution; very nice composition. Nice use of a shadow.

I will not be outdone Aam. I'm working on a word.. be back later. -tv

Another look at your "artsy" side - well done here Rod. Surprised you let the slightly asymmetric crop get by your eagle eye (needs a hair more on the left side). Does catch your attention with the colors. -angioman

Well, this sure is big color! I like the sky, too. ~dtallakson
Rod 04-Aug-2008 06:59
Geez Aamm I think you outdid Tommy wiv that word:-) Thanks mate.
aam1234 04-Aug-2008 06:57
Agree with you Rod on the clouds and shadow, I like both. They add dimensionality ...hey I can use big words like Tom does :)
Rod 04-Aug-2008 06:28
Thanks Anonymous, Doug, Tommy & Brent:-) This isn't an art installation it's part of a Dulux paint shop. When I say someone else's work it would be a graphic designer I spose. Funny init the two elements I like in this picy are the shadows & the clouds which for me reinforce the light coming from the right. The clouds are brighter on the right & the shadow adds tension..........Brilliant a:-)

A very curious shot Rod and we're still left wondering what this work that was done by someone else is?

Hehe. You're so sly paying someone to put up those colors for this challenge. Too bad those clouds marred your negative space. -tv

At least when you photograph someones work you do it justice. I'm big time guilty of it myself over in the exihibition gallery. The included sky was a good move. -COAmature
ctfchallenge03-Aug-2008 20:41
consider the sky and the top three circles (all blues and greens)
Rod 03-Aug-2008 20:02
Thanks Debi, Penny Aamm & Cat:-) No real reason for the sky in the picy but I normally don't like to photograph some one else's work. So by including the sky I have made my own picy using some one else's work as an element, plus it's wot looked good to me through the viewfinder. That's funny Cat I really like the shadow, I even tried to burn it in some more but it went dirty looking so I left it alone. I have some different ones in full sun & I will have a look at to night. The sun was almost setting..
ctfchallenge03-Aug-2008 15:02
This is nice, but why the shadow on the lower circles. Bad timing.

So, I'm curious (not that I don't like it), why the sky?
I can think of lots of reasons you might give me, but I'd like to hear what you have to say.
