Thanks much Debi, I like those streaking light flares too. I think most any lens can make them if you get the angle right with bright next to dark or do a very long exposure.
I put a color version in pending if anyone wants to make a comparison. There is definitely a different mood in both and though I didn't do any fancy processing on it I guess some will prefer the color version depending on their taste. For this particular scene I really like the B+W. Very little dodging and burning was done on this one. The increased zones in the grass for example were a result of making the green channel darker and the yellow channel brighter during conversion.

This looks wonderful Brent - I love the way the sunlight is streaming out over the hills. Is this the lens? I seem to have seen this effect this some more pictures of yours

Thanks much Tommy :-) You know I converted this in Lightroom so I don't have a color version prepared to post now. I have a stool waiting at the neighborhood pub for dinner and refreshment tonight, but I can maybe get together and post a color version tomorrow. We'll see, but the color version might still be prefered by some- though it won't look anything Anselish...

Wow. This has such a classic feel to it, so well controlled technically and beautifully felt. If anyone has doubts about the effectiveness of black & white they must see this. But to convince them (and to validate my comment) I wonder if we can see the color version - if it exits. -tv

Gee, thanks much all :-) I guess I’m glad I thought to bring my camera bag along last night when I stepped out to do a work related chore. I think I’m in trouble with my friends and neighbors now though. I’ve been making sacrifices to the gods all week in hopes of conjuring up some clouds. They finally came, but now it is supposed to rain all weekend- oops! Rod I’m sure you have some weekend masterpiece up your sleeve as usual. I don’t know that monochrome is necessarily my thing Aam, but a life long admiration for Ansel’s work does have me feeling more inspired than usual this challenge. You know me and dog’s Carole; it took a lot of willpower to not put down the camera and go meet that puppy :-) I didn’t orient the view more to the left Penny because it seemed to make that tree dominate the image- the only crop was a slice off the right side. Thanks again for all your comments!

so you finally got a cloudy day. This is a really a great looking photo - and there's no way it could look as well in color. I'm kind of wondering why you didn't start the left side (bottom) of the hill closer to the corner.

This is terrific Brent! I hope I can get a nice landscape shot before the end of the challenge but I don't hold out much hope for getting anything this good. Great composition, subject and processing and I like the little dog looking at you - is that one of yours? :-) CJ

WAW. Now this is a B&W that I can admire.

Hmm, Brent. It seems monochrome is your thing, isn't it.

This is really reflective of an end-of-the-day picture. Wonderfully composed. jano

I was going out to day to shoot a couple of Ansel type masterpieces but after seeing this I might not bother. Wot a terrific picy a, the hill & composition really set this up for a great looking picy. I think it's a shame we seem to neglect B&W picys these days when I see picys like this. Great work mate.
