The Letter-Writing Campaign

Okay, I confess that all I really wanted was (1) Andrews McMeel to publish one or more volumes of The Duplex, which is a terrific strip, and (2) to convince McCoy to sign a copy of his book for me. So back in September I fired off an initial letter to Andrews McMeel complaining that it had been too long between books, etc., and that it should consider publishing a new volume of his 'toons. I bcc'd McCoy on this and every other letter I sent, sending his copy to some vague address in hopes that it would reach him. Hugh Andrews, President and Chief Operating Officer, fired back a kind of odd response declining to publish another volume. I was undeterred and basically kept writing. In December, I received in the mail from Glenn a note that Andrews McMeel had agreed to publish another volume. (Evidently he had been receiving the carbon copies.) It was polite of him to suggest that the campaign had something to do with it, which of course it didn't, but it was a fun exercise and ended better than I dared hope. Congratulations to McCoy! Now everyone go out and order your copy.
