Bang! Bang! Signs as Target Practice

Perhaps the first order of business is to observe the obvious: the ubiquitous American road sign makes for some mighty fine target practice. Every state I've traveled through has signs that have been shot to smithereens. Once you start watching for them, you'll be amazed at how common shot-up signs are. Naturally, most are in rural areas, but a surprising number are right there on the outskirts of town. And don't think that everyone's packing just a .22 rifle or a .410 shotgun; from the looks of some of these -- take the two from Coyote, New Mexico, for example -- there are some folks totin' pretty high caliber weapronry. Best think twice next time you flip the bird to that jackass who just cut you off. And as much as I love Massachusetts, this page should put an end to any misconceptions about gun control there.

Sometimes (especially up north), these holes and dents aren't caused by bullets but by small rocks projected by fast-moving snow plows.
