Over the past few weeks, I have been surprised by the number of singing Blackburnian Warblers I have heard in the park while walking the dogs. I checked their range maps and also to my surprise, found they can nest in our area. I was very happy to find this male singing in our own backyard this morning. He sang for over an hour and a half, moving from pine to pine, to cherry, birch and maple and back to pine again. Loved it. I think this bird is probably my "spark bird," the one that really got me interested to see different birds. I think the first I ever saw was one day in late May when I stopped dead in the middle of a spirited street hockey game, having spotted a brightly colored male bird in a recently leafed out maple on the side of the road. All but a close friend thought I was nuts.
