Found this Dekay's Brown Snake cold and motionless on the asphalt in the middle of the road. It must have crawled out in the last warmth of the day and then got too chilled as evening approached. I was happy it hadn't been run over like the one I saw last week. I picked it up and let it warm in my hand. It started to constrict around my pinky finger and when I opened my hand the little stinker got all defensive and tried to bite me. By that time I had walked 50' off the road and placed it in the leaves by a stump. Hopefully, it feels a bit ashamed of its behavior! :-)
