A male Red-bellied Woodpecker 'hides' from a hawk this afternoon. I didn't see the hawk, but I heard the Blue Jays sound the alarm and all the birds scattered. This woodpecker and a Downy Woodpecker sat still for almost 10 minutes until the Chickadees started feeding again.

What luck that the alarm was sounded and you had such a long time to get this great shot!

Such striking color in this sharp shot. I'm glad the woodpecker didn't attract any unwanted attention.
