Looking Back on 2020
Kodi and I went for a walk in the park today. It’s the first time we’ve been out since October. We missed having Murphy with us.
2020 was a different year, for sure. We were blessed with our daughter and her fiance staying with us from the end
of January until they got married in August. Although the pandemic meant staying home for the most part,
it didn’t affect us as much as some in that I had been working freelance from home since the end of 2016. Business was
very good for me again this year. I had several interesting design, web, animation, video, illustration and photography projects.
Aside from that, our daughter earned a Master’s in Social Work and got a very nice full-time job shortly afterward.
She also married a pretty OK guy. Just kidding Sean, we love you. They got an apartment just 5 miles away, and we carefully
visit with masks and social distancing on occasion. We’re all looking forward to the vaccine so we can visit more frequently.
On the sad side of things, our beloved Murphy suffered on and off with surgery to remove a cancerous lesion on his heel,
and an additional surgery to amputate the leg when the cancer returned to the heel. Unfortunately, just two months after
the amputation the cancer returned in full force to the area around the amputation and the lymph nodes in his belly. On 12/29
we made the difficult, but correct decision to relieve Murphy of future suffering from this aggressive disease. He was a
quirky dog, but extremely smart and lovable. Some say dogs don't like to be hugged, but Murphy loved it and would hug back
by leaning into us and giving kisses or nibbling.
So here’s to 2021. Let’s pray that things start looking up with the end of the pandemic. I hope everyone trusts science and
will get vaccinated. Happy New Year to all my PBase friends. I wish you all the best in 2021. Thank you for all of your kind
