12/28/2019 - LRM-135935.jpg

My wife and I took part in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count today. Basically, you drive and/or walk
a given area and count the total number of birds you see. While it was a bit chilly, it was dry and
there was no snow on the ground. We were helping a friend by doing half of her normal area.
I had the magnetic signs made just in case any suspicious types wondered what our vehicle was doing driving by slowly!

Our list:

Mallard - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 1
Northern Cardinal - 10
American Crow - 25
Probable Wood Ducks - 6
Black-capped Chickadee - 12
American Goldfinch - 4
White-breasted Nuthatch - 5
Dark-eyed Junco - 8
Downy Woodpecker - 6
Hairy Woodpecker - 1
Blue Jay - 9
American Tree Sparrow - 10
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 4
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1
Pileated Woodpecker - 2
Tufted Titmouse - 3
Common Flicker - 2
House Finch - 3
Eastern Bluebird - 7
Mourning Dove - 23
House Sparrow - 1
Belted Kingfisher - 1

I did the bird count also, a few years back. You saw 7 bluebirds, I haven't seen one since October.
