Gray-cheeked Thrush - Catharus minimus
Yesterday I went into the garage and heard some loud buzzing, not like a bee, but larger wings.
Kodi was looking up at the garage door opener. When I checked I found a very large dragonfly
which I believe was a Variable Darner. In order to see it I had to release the "shade" over
one of the bulbs and when I did it flew away.
Today I heard a different sort of flapping and noticed a bird skimming the ceiling. It landed on some
lawn chairs that are hanging off the ceiling. I knew immediately it was a thrush of some sort. Kodi was interested,
so I escorted him out the back door. The bird flew into the corner by the door and I was afraid it might hit a window—
despite the full garage door being open! As I crept back in, the bird flew around again and slowly left the garage
out the big door. Kodi jumped and almost had a snack! I would have been mortified. Birds have so many obstacles
to avoid on their long migration. They don't need to fall prey to a dog! Safe travels, little one!
