Baltimore Oriole Family

About ten days ago I noticed something on the back lawn when I took the dogs out to throw the frisbee.
At first I thought it was a group of leaves from the tulip trees, but it had too much contrast. As I got
closer I noticed it was a young male Baltimore Oriole that seemed injured. I called a local wildlife rehabilitator
and they asked if I could bring the bird in. I let the dogs in the house and went back out with a shoe box.
I carefully picked the bird up and put him in the box with some grass. When we got to woman's house, she said he looked
as if he had a collision with a window. Most of our windows have ultraviolet collision deterrents, so we're not sure
it happened here, but it could have. After ten days of "nursing" at the rehab hospital with anti-inflammatory and pain meds,
he was good as new. We picked him up today and released him when we got home. He quickly reunited with his family at the
jelly feeder, though I could not get a decent shot of him with the group. The video of the release will have to do.

A fantastic family shot with two of them beaks open. And so glad the story went as well as it did.

This is a heartwarming, but also instructive, story with a happy ending. Unfortunately, too many birds strike windows on buildings big and small. Kudos to you and the wildlife rehabber, and let's hope this youngster makes it south in the autumn. V

A great result from your helping this bird back to life. I get some birds hitting my windows too, but most of the time they recover fine from just putting a box (my bird box) over them for 1/2 hour or so. Kudos to the wildlife rehab. lady too! V

What a lovely end to the story.. windows can be a big worry when
one has a multitude of birds around. v
