Northern Tooth - Climacodon septrionalis

A Fungus, Among Us.

Spotted this interesting fungus growing at the base of a tree today,
while walking the dogs. This is a 50% crop from a cell phone shot I took.
The entire fungus was about 12" x 18".

other sizes: small medium original auto

Beautifully photographed, it's edible but some reports say it's bitter, and some say delicious. I've seen it on some trees around here but never sampled it.

Fascinating. Love the diversity of fungal shapes - looks like little flies are liking it too.
