Just two days ago I saw a story about a rabies vaccine drop in our county. Lo and behold, I found this one on of our trails today.
I put it back out, after I took this crappy cell phone pic, by a place we know to be frequented by raccoons.

Yes, they drop these around here too. If the dogs find them first the usually eat them! They's ok, it doesn't hurt them.

OH yes, they did drops of vaccine up this way for awhile, maybe still do for all I know. It is apparently quite effective. Good thing you heeded the warning :-))
