Saw a report of an Upland Sandpiper nearby on the 17th and 18th,
so we took a drive this evening to see if it was still there.

It was! These birds are becoming increasingly rare due to hunting
and threats on their habitat. Hunting? Really? C'mon people.
Killing birds like this (or any other creature for that matter) for sport
should be outlawed.

Lovely shot! And I agree, the only shots that these birds should worry about are shutter clicks.

Beautiful shot of this bird, what a neat find. Habitat loss has put pressure on these beautiful plovers, but at present no states have had a hunting season on these birds since the early twentieth century, although there may be hunting going on in South America where they winter.
