Back in the early eighties when I worked for the Alberta government I purchased a number of 5 MB hard drives for the original IBM PC, which only had floppy disk drives. The hard drives came in a metal cabinet the same size as the PC and they were $5,000 each - i.e., $1,000 per megabyte. At that rate your ailing drive would be worth a billion dollars!
