I was cleaning out the bird houses today and found a poor little House Wren that didn't make it.

Meadow and Murphy also found an egg on the lawn, so I guess there were two. Unfortunately it
happens that one chick may hatch late or be smaller and less able to fight for the food. They
did have a 100% successful brood in the top part of this house earlier in the year.

Yes, unfortunate, but that's nature for you. I find a few of these that fall out of the nests.

We also find dead youngsters, although this year hasn't been that bad. We had a horrible year some time ago when we were finding dead and/or dying newly hatched chicks nearly every day. We'd even see the parent birds discard youngsters out of the nest.
