Such a good eye Mary Anne! That was just a tiny peek of a cigarette you saw- she claims she is down to one or two a day. I removed any trace of her habit, thanks :-)

These tones do work a lot better for this challenge, Brent. Now, could you get rid of the white area in her right hand that makes it look as if she's holding a cigarette? It's funny how my eyes go directly to one little offending spot once I notice it. Of course, maybe it doesn't bother you....

While this does work better for the topic, I do like the original too! :-D CJ

Okay, I have uploaded a new "darker" version with desaturated yellow and blue here and posted the old one in pending. I'm still not sure how this might look on various monitors, but I'm thinking this version works better for the topic. Thanks again for the feedback girls :-)

Brent, I have the opposite problem! I have a pretty bright monitor on my laptop and things appear brighter than they probably are so I'm hesitant at times to say something looks "too bright". I like the colors in most everything here but the yellow shirt does tend to draw the eye away from her face. Maybe just changing that color to a darker one, maybe burgundy, might keep the focus on her face. Anyway, play around with this as it's really a nice picture! :-) CJ

Thanks Ladies :-) I started to make some changes on this and decided the monitor I am using just isn't going to cut it for this challenge. What looks dark to me is bright for everyone else. I got my monitor because it was an old school lcd with a very wide color gamut (many new monitors sacrifice color for refresh speed). The downside is the contrast is old school too. I took a look at the black on gray image Victor was kind enough to post in the last low key challenge and I can't see the fonts at all with this monitor even though I am using a usb calibration device. I'm better off using my Macbook Pro on this later as though it is limited as far as color gamut goes being a portable, the led backlighted screen has very nice contrast.
I shudder at the thought of how many other entries I've likely posted too bright as a result of using this low contrast monitor!

Brent, I'd think about converting this to a dark sepia. I think the bright blue and yellow make it look more saturated than low key...and I think it would be more dramatic without the colors calling such attention to themselves.

Lovely portrait Brent with great composition, pose, and lighting on her face and shadows on the tree (that is a tree isn't it - a really BIG tree?)! It might look a little more low key with a bit of levels adjustment for the middle tones to the right making the brights in the trees a little darker. But it's all a matter of taste as this does look low key - I just prefer darker tones. :-) Love the textures in the trees, ferns and in her clothes too! Good shot Brent! :-) CJ
