Stinky

On the recliner.

This shot was not planned for this challenge. It's just a "luck shot" in that it happened to fit the theme. I did not know what the theme was going to be when I took it. But I believe it was taken within the challenge time-frame.

I was actually just playing around, working at getting a properly exposed shot of this guy. He's always a challenge to me because I usually try to expose too brightly. In this case, I just metered off of a neutral area near him and then used that in an attempt to avoid overexposing him.

He's a natural for a low-key subject. And low-key fits his personality too.

A gorgeous image, Jim. Incidentally, "Hocus Pocus" is a favorite movie of mine and Binx was a perfect starter name for this handsome fella. -Michael

Beautiful shot Jim. Perfect light across the face, enhanced by the subtle out of focus tones in the top right corner.
My Maine Coon, Bruce, had a related rear end problem which was particularly unwelcome in a cat with long, dense fur. To the relief of all concerned, he seems to have left it ...er...behind him now that he's an adult.

Those eyes! Wonderful, Jim.
And the story is quite amusing, too. *grin* ~Lydia

This Could equally well be a panther! Resting, food full after a kill, off in the thicket.

Really wonderful. Traveller

It seems that no matter what name we give a cat, they always end up later getting a "better" name (or two, or three). This guy started off as Binx, named for the talking black cat Thackery Binx, (actually a boy who had been turned into a cat) in the movie "Hocus Pocus".

But at some point, he suffered from an unpleasant malady involving some impacted glands near his hind end which lead to the new name which, unfortunately for him, stuck. This little problem was easily cured by one trip to the vet, but it's such an appealing name that he's never been able to outlive it ;-)

An amusing consequence of this name happened when we had to start him on insulin. You can't have a prescription without a name. And the vet, naturally, wrote the prescription out for Stinky, but with our last name. So when we went to pick up the prescription, it was for Stinky Harrison. The pharmacist gave my wife and I a rather disturbed look when she read it, probably thinking: "What cruel parents would name a child Stinky?"

Once we told her it was for a cat, she seemed greatly relieved!

Oh, and Stinky Harrison has a "quick pay" account at the local Walgreens now!

Stinky is perfect for this topic Jim, and what a name - you're going to have to explain that one! I like the light shining across his face, eyes, and highlighting his whiskers. Great yellow eyes contrasting with that black fur and nice composition too! :-) CJ
