Thanks Cat! Some seem to think you shouldn't have any contrast in high-key but my interpretation is a bit different! :-) I don't think high-key and a bit of high contrast are mutually exclusive. Well, we all have our opinions, and that's what makes the world go 'round! :-D CJ

I love this. This is high-key indeed! Don't some will tell you otherwise.

This to me screams out high key. Yes, there is high contrast, but its limited to the focal point/subject. Excellent image CJ.

Tough call to make for me personally too, this high-key vs high-contrast, I have to confess. Whether this technically qualifies or not, I am not sure... but I am sure that I absolutely love the image! Compliments and regards Nico

I've done a lot of reading lately on this subject and from what I've gleaned from it is that there is a lot of controversy about the subject! Many photographers say high key does NOT mean that there are no blacks in the image, but that the peak of the predominant tones are to the right of the histogram and that all the tones from white to black are represented. If we say no blacks are to be represented, then even RK's headers would be considered only high contrast and not high key. Personally, I believe they should be considered high key.

I will certainly experiment more and even reprocess this in different ways to come up with other versions that I would interpret as high key but I think we will all end up with our own ideas about what constitutes "high key"! :-) CJ

Here's a link to a Fred Miranda forum talking about high key.

I REALLY like this shot, Carole. It's beautiful!
I think it's High Contrast (like Cat's baby) instead of High Key, though. Perhaps I don't understand them.

Anyway...Frame it. It's wonderful! ~Lydia

This shot works quite well, CJ, and I like it a lot. However, it brings up a problem I'm having with this Challenge, which is figuring out the difference between "high key" and "high contrast." Even though there are pure blacks here, does it become high key because of the preponderance of white areas?
