Far be it from me to hurt Leonard's feelings! :-) I take your point about the three layers as you see it. I think this might then be one of those where I leave it up to the voting community to decide. Kind regards Nico
I like your diplomatic response, Nico. You are such a gracious host!
I see the fingernails as the foreground, the lizzard as the middle, and the thumb as the background. I agree they're very close together, but the depth of the whole scene requires them to be.
I will most certainly bow to your judgement if you decide it is off topic... with no hard feelings.
Well... perhaps Leonard might have his feelings hurt. But, I'll be just fine. *grin* ~Lydia
What a friendly looking chap. But I don't know... I think I would not enjoy having him/her/it sitting on my hand... :-)
You've certainly used DOF to isolate out your main subject and the background from each other. I like that. I really hate having to make a call as to whether or not this is a strong example of layering, though. Why the hesitation? Simply since I am no expert either!!
My little knowledge leads me to think that may be there needs to be (at least ) 3 "layers" in a pic before it would strictly speaking qualify... foreground, middle ground and background. Here it feels to me as if you have two. (Or did you see it differently?)
My plan with this challenge is certainly not to try playing judge and jury on each entry... my hope and desire is that the voting process will in the final analysis decide which pic was truly the most stunning example of a layered composition.
Perhaps one of the real photography experts in the group can help me / you / us out with a comment here... I would love to know the views of others so that I, too, can learn from this.
Hope my comments are received in the same positive and constructive spirit as intended.
