I'm a little fuzzy on this layering technique and not sure if this photo fits the requirement. This posted image was two photos combined, one focused on the foreground ferns and a second focused on the background. If this does not meet the bar, feel free to delete it.

Nico, Thanks for the comments. Actually this was two separate pictures with the camera fixed at the same place on a tripod. The only difference was the focus, one on the ferns and one on the background. Maybe I can find something that looks more layered. Jim

Jim, the composite is to lovely that I will probably not have the heart to move it to pending. But I think you are right that it is probably not quite what I had in mind (namely the layering of two different photographs). If one could somhow figure out how to get such amazing DOF and composition done in one single capture, it would of course be perfectly fitting. Really, really beautiful... Send some others... I am sure you have perfectly suitable ones too! :-) Regards Nico
