Thanks a lot Tom and Tv but this is not a B&W. Its how the scene was and is in colour. :-)

Cheers<> Vikas

I normally appreciate b&w but the mix of foliage and snow seems to want some color this time. Beautiful panorama. -tv

Thank you for sharing this winters day. The B&W works well.

Thank you everyone, much appreciated.

This was taken in the Kumaon Mountains in the Indian state of Uttaranchal at an altitude of about 7000 feet. In fact, the area where the clouds are on the left of the photo, on a clear day one can see some of the world's highest peaks, all snow covered throughout the year. Its a spectacular sight to see these majestic mountains in a 180 degree arc. The area you see in the photograph is an Apple/Plum/Apricot orchard, spread over 50 acres. The rest around it is reserved forest land with a sizeable population of Panthers, deer, wild boar and some bear. Definitely a place I would love to retire in, its so very beautiful.

This particular area is about 8 hours drive from New Delhi (North East direction). This is the first time I saw snow there as it snows maybe 3 to 4 times during winter and this was the first snow fall of the season. In most of Northern India, at higher altitudes, it snows a few times every winter though the plains (including New Delhi) are not as cold and the minimum hovers around 2 to 4 degrees C during winter, seldom going below zero.

Cheers, Vikas.

Lovely winter scene - reminds me of the area I live in - N. Calif. This looks like it was taken at a higher elevation looking at the cloud in the background. Where was this taken Vikas? CJ

Nice scene, and quite surprising. I know there's snow in the high mountains in India, but this looks like an agricultural district. Would be fun to know how unique this image is.. how often does it snow there?

Really? I just don't think that the Western Mind associates snow and India at all....nice contrast and conversion. Traveller
