Heaven From Hell
by Melbob

Melbourne

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Pink Floyd - Delicate sound of thunder Album

This is a composite of photos: my 5 string Bass guitar, man in silhouette,
and a shot made up of light globes to resemble the cover picture of the CD double album.

So much to like about all that's going on here. It really works as album art and Wish You Were Here is one of my favourite PF lyrics. Great entry Bob. Regards -Najinsky

Amen to what Lydia said! PS helps us all to untethered imaginations and your excellent work is a prime example. A bass guitar - I'd never would have guessed it, but now I can see its altered presence. Thanks for the background information Bob. - Kelly

Have no guilt complex, Bob. PS all you want! This is fascinating. I especially like how the foreground adds scale to it all. ~Lydia

Thank you Michael... I guess it is my guilt complex thinking I should concentrate more on the actual photography than the processing?

Bob, I meant my comment as a compliment. I think you created something wonderful here. While you may have felt limited by "what was here", I see no signs of that limitation in the image! -Michael

Thank you Melanie, Nico and Michael... and yes Michael you are 'right-on'... had to make do with what was here and that makes it very limiting.

No excuse now though, I have a couple of days to do something more photographically creative, so I charged up the batteries... now I just need to get the feeble creative juices running!

Thanks for commenting, regards Bob.

So this is what you do when you just get home and don't have much time to think about the topic? -Michael

Your ability to visualise an abstract image - and then having the PS skills to make it become a reality is (as always) most impressive. Very, very cool - and something I could easily see featured on a real CD cover. Very well done. Regards Nico

Thanks for your comments Trav and Kelly.

I changed the name , it probably makes more sense rather than the Album name.

The Man with light globes is an accurate facsimilie of the actual graphics on the CD sleeve. One can summise that he is trying to "light" his way to the 'Pearly Gates" being invited to enter by the figure in the shadows.

I shot my 5 string bass guitar from the 'bridge' area and used this with some extreme 'Transform/Warp' manipulation and a multiple application of 'Duplicate, saturate colours/inverse colour/saturation... flatten" to produce the extreme colours on the strings..... intended to give the impression of the transition from Hell (on Earth.... which members of the band had been through)... a tunnel effect with flashes of crimson flames,to the gates of "Heaven"

A bit of a "long bow" to draw but who knows the mind of musicians... even though I'm one myself? ( a not very good one I hasten to add... lol)

Hope this makes a little more sense?

~ Regards Bob

Very surreal and intriguing image Bob! - Please tell us what those light bulb things are and the other parts in this amazing image and how you created it. - Kelly

Very odd, Bob, very beautiful, lovely strong, vibrant colors and then I notice that the figure with the pearls is...a man and off in the image is...
