Thanks for the very imformative reply back :)
I'm looking at the White Lightning x1600. They can work at 1600w for outside shots and 400w for closed in quarters. But may get a softbox from Photoflex. Nothing decided in stone yet. I would like to get the 580exII but only have enough in the budget for either.

Thanks Techo!, AussieDawg! Kelly and Vikas!
Techo, thanks for your forgivness :) Yes I have used other strobes, but I love the profoto. I think the quality of profoto is very good, has a solid built and rugged and its very consistent. I use it in combination with pocketwizard and I consistently get 1/250 sync speed and constant light temp even after 300+ shots in a session, no matter what the distance. Plus the recharge time is very quick; I have used it for stage coverages outdoors, works extremely well. I have evaluated some chimera boxes but have not bought any as yet.
AussieDawg, I had to give it a thought for a while before I set up the shot. The difficult part was to choose the correct angle for the shot so the liquid looks natural inverted.
Kelly, Thanks for your kind words. The numbers are a reference point of the photo in my database.
Vikas, Thank you!!!! you made my day! This the best compliment I have gotten from you! and it means a lot to me, coming from a genius himself!

Nice one Cat. You really had everyone anxious to find out how you created this. I for one, being completely clueless, was happy just staring at it and saying WOW. --AussieDawg

Ah very clever ;) You're forgiven. The refractions in the stems I thought tricked me hehe. Looks great. Is the Profoto system the first studio lighting kit you've tried? are you happy with it?

Thanks,
-Techo

Oh! no! .....................!

Looks like I will be disappointing few of you by telling how it was done :(
This is a combination of two photos. One with 3 glasses upright and 2 inverted and the other with 3 inverted and 2 upright. In the first one I filled the middle glass with liquid and rest all empty. In the second one I filled the two upright and rest empty.

About the lighting: Its taken in front of a plain white sheet of paper with a single Profoto Acute 2R powered D4 strobe at the least power and modeling light on at full power. There is no Color/Hue manipulation for the light. The warmth in the light was created to compliment the color in the liquid by the combination of the modeling light (tungsten) and the strobe at low power. Both photos were taken in identical setting so the colors matched perfectly. Although the color in the inverted glass looks subtly warmer due to the fine gradient of the background.
Hope I didn't diappoint you guys too much. This could have been done with jello, but did not attempt it.
Thank you all for looking and commenting. I appreciate it very much!!

Lovely, clever shot.

Very elegant. Love the lighting. Has the pleasing look all your images have. The Cat staple ;) There's the refraction in upright stems of the middle glass and its contents, so I reckon it wasn't PSed in. Really like the composition of the two empty glass on the side.

Excellent photo Cat. Perfect execution.
Lydia, your story is hilarious. Good thing the Mom did pass a garbage truck in her way to the hospital:) Sam Attal

If it's PSed it's PSed very well! Look at the peach reflections in the two lower front stems. I don't think it's added.. must be jello or something. VERY COOL photo, Cat.

Reminds me of a story (are you surprised?? *grin* ) My aunt taught elementary school to twins: Orangejello and Lemonjello (pronounced or ANJ a lo and le MONJ a lo) The story goes that the mom was in the hospital after having them and read their names on her lunch tray.... sounded French. Not kidding. Also for another child... still telling the truth here... Childname: Formica Dinette. Seen on a box on the way to the hospital.
