Alexis, my comment was not meant as a criticism, as I believe that art (especially contemporary) is often designed to ask questions and even make us uncomfortable. I was just wondering if that was your intention or if I'm just reading into it. When I was teaching literature, I would tell students that any interpretations they could support with references from the text were valid, and they should not be confined to what the author may or may not have intended. In any even, this photo is very well done, and the feelings I get from it go beyond composition and technique.

Mary Anne, its not my intent to give a political statement on this image specially on a very sensitive topic (like what you said). as for the bnw treatment, i thought the colored version is a bit flat (brownish orange in a white backround) and you had noticed too, as you stare longer, they seem to rotate, which i liked. i hope i didnt offend you and thanks for your comment and seeing it in a different way.
ciao

You have an interesting series here, Alexis, and each of the photos is very well shot. I find this one, however, to be unsettling, as the b & w treatment, the lighting, and the teabags seeming to rotate at random angles remind me of the group hangings carried out by various repressive governments or other groups. Was that your intention?
