Sumatra Dark Roast

Bar Harbor, Maine

This image was captured just seconds after Master-Roaster Ron Greenberg of Benbow's put the finishing touches on the roasting of their organic Sumatra Gayo Dark (Italian roast w/heavy body and low acidity).

Thanks Nico. That 10.0mm glass deserves all the credit - the tub's highlight's did get blurred in CS3 though. - Kelly

Super contrasts and colours. I also like the 'depth perspective' with the coffee beans becoming so noticeably smaller towards the far end. Well done!

Thank you Lydia, I'm delighted that you like this image. It was clipped from the much larger scene in this image:

These colors are beautiful together... such a vivid contrast. The beans are sharp. A pleasing photo, Kelly. ~Lydia

Thanks CJ. Ron gave me a couple of pounds; one of their Organic Sumatra Dark Decaf and another of their Costa Rican Decaf(Swiss water method). - Kelly

Nice color combination Kelly and I love Sumatra coffee - did you buy some? ;-) CJ

Thanks k2. The weight of a batch prior to roasting is about 60 pounds and the beans were slightly smaller than shown here after their final "crack".

That's an awful lot of coffee.. I wouldn't like to guess how many beans there are! The red and the two large OOF reflections compliment the massive heap of of beans very well. Good picture, well seen.

Thanks Pops - after a couple of cups of Dark Roast Sumatra, I bet you're signing!

Thank you Sam and Vikas. After spending the morning yesterday - two hours at Benbow's roasting house and an hour at the Alternative Market where they have a lot of coffee and tea products - and spending the rest of the day sorting through three hundred plus shots, this was the first image I thought worth posting. It was fascinating watching the whole roasting process done on a very special piece of equipment (Loring Smart Roasthttp://www.smartroaster.com) by an expert with 25 years of roasting experience. - Kelly

I could smell it from here in Michigan. I want a cup of this. Love the shot. Sam Attal
