Thanks guys. Melbob, I was standing on that ridge shown right through the middle of the frame with my husband and daughter 2 weeks after this shot was taken. That cornice broke loose (although it was smaller by that time). It was quite exciting to watch, but I only had the 10-22 on and didn't get very good images of it. The thing is, there is quite a little valley not visible between the ridge and the slope under that cornice, so even though we were very close, also safe. I would definitely not venture anywhere on that slope, but crazy extreme skiers and snowboarders go right off the top of that cornice.
Victor, I would be happy to send you one if you would like. Snow makes amazing patterns from wind and also when a rain on snow even happens. Ski trail and small releases also influence patterns.
This picture is interesting to me because it shows the exact same patterns as are found on some pictures of Mars that are used as evidence of the presence of liquid water. I've never been convinced by those pictures, because "rivers" of small particles like sand or in this case snow cause the same patterns. This is one where I'd love to see a high resolution version. -- Victor
