Thank you Melbob and Elena! Melbob, that never occurred to me, to try blurring AFTER the filter (since the original is quite blurry--and the seeming details are more filter-created). Thank you for that idea. I'd probably try it, but I am currently away from home and will be for over a week, with no access to the original. And I probably won't have internet access for most of the week. But thank you very much for your insight and suggestion. I'll probably try it for my own sake when I get home. --Melanie

Well I think that this is a very sharply out of focus image? Very interesting effect, I do like the unicorn suggestion. I feel that it is a little 'busy' Melanie ...(I can say this because I am frequently guilty as charged of this phenomena...) and I wonder if using lens blur fairly severely on the background might not work well here?... or perhaps a gradual fade to black? I like your experimentation with filters though, it opens all sorts of possibilities! ~ Regards Melbob

Thank you Kiki, Jim H2 and Pops. I thought the interaction between the blurry photo and the glowing edges filter led to a rather interesting effect. And you're right, who would take the time to focus properly if they saw a unicorn? Not sure if I'll leave this one up or not. --Melanie

You are exactly right Pops! Because who, upon seeing a real unicorn, wouldn't forget to take the camera off manual focus before grabbing the one and only shot they would ever get. Jim H2

I agree with K2 and Jim H2. With the starkly white horse (pony?) in the midst of earth tone browns I'd have put a horn on on the horse and made a unicorn out of it. For me that would make a perfect OOF picture.

If I may be honest- As it pertains to the challenge, I prefer the version in Pending. To echo k2, the pp removes any evidence that this is was ever out of focus. However, on its own I think the treatment is cool and the contrasting colors are great. Jim H2

Perhaps not typically "unsharp" after the PP, but the effects work impressively well on this shot. Like a fairy tale illustration with some tribal/ritual undertone. Reminds of pastels on black paper. -k2
