.....in legal and constitutional terms?

Well "Legal," is certainly larger than our Constitution and applies to varying degrees outside the borders of the United States...;>)

More to the point, now that you mention it...Is the Right to Happiness, (a present state of being), different than the Right of the Pursuit of Happiness, (some future state of coming into being)?

The question was, What is the relationship of Government to its Citizens, and what Rights, if any, obtain to each?

`Tis a thorny question, the answer to which I do not have...yet...lol

Best Wishes, Traveller

Excellent capture!! The joy is well captured. -Cat

Note to Traveller:
Right to happiness is more like "Right to the pursuit of happiness" in legal and constitutional terms.

This picture brings me back to Guatemala. I lived in a town in Guatemala in the 70s that had hardly any vehicles. The vehicles in town were the buses, only one route actually based in our town, occasional tourists, occasional commercial vehicles (dump trucks, etc.), the pharmacy jeep, a 25 hp car on the way to church that I never saw actually running, and my dad's car.

Normally, we'd walk the two or so miles it took to get to the market or church or anything else in town. Occasionally, though, we'd drive. On the rare occasion we'd drive to church, my dad was conscripted to haul people off to their finca about 10 miles away to save them the walk (one time we fit 38 people and their belongings in our suburban). At the finca, what you see here was basically what we saw (well, not counting the motorcycle).

Kids would run after the car like dogs run after a car tire -- OK, so you don't see that much around here either. Suffice it to say the presence of a car is rare excitement. If they ran fast enough, they'd jump onto the back of the car for a joy ride. My dad, knowing how dangerous that could be, would try to always be just out of their reach.

And I have formally apologized for this...Slander...lol...people are taking me to task on this as they should.

*********

Yes, I have already apologized...

...I think that I misconstrued the title.

Ahemmmmmmm

Wealth is Happiness, would be ironic in this context as a title...Happiness is Wealth is pretty cool.

Bad me.

Best wishes, Traveller

As I wrote elsewhere, using your image as an example:

The Right to Happiness...

...the current DSLR Canon Challenge is Happiness...I find the title to the following photo to be offensive, though I am sure it is meant to be ironic, I suppose. (Taken at a Central Am. Orphanage):

Rights are natural to you in the sense that it is something the Government cannot infringe upon...(I would add, without good reason and due process...but we know all to well to what lengths a Government might go to find a good reason and due process).

A Right is inalienable in the legal sense that you cannot sell it...I think that the Right to Happiness is one such right as noted in this image.

The smile on these children's faces are fundamental, belong to them, and the Government may not infringe on this moment.

Best wishes, Traveller
