That wasn't doubts, quite the contrary: Hauling her out 5 times for the shooting is reasonably persistent IMO :)

For this experiment I shot all images handheld (thinking I needed some freedom of movement to follow the car), though I had my tripod and the 3-way pan/tilt-head handy; next time I'll use both of them with no doubt and I'll probably will get somewhat further away from the road in order to zoom--with the camera on the tripod--accordingly in. Thanks again, k2, for your friendly comment(s)! BTW: what makes you doubt about my stamina? I'm surprised you know me *that* well ;-)) -- db.

Panning obviously demands some stamina.. I would think the technique as such is doomed to fail more often than not. I don't find the failure rate disturbing at all.
Thing is: You knew what you were after, and achieved it. Was this handheld or with a tripod / panning head btw?

This is "much too much" of a *completely undeserved* compliment, k2. When Cristina got her new car a few weeks ago, we went for a three days' excursion to "break it in" and take some pictures of it. What I had not told her was that I was going to practise a technique I was not at all familiar with: panning. On this image she is still smiling; but the smile disappeared when I asked her, immediately before sunset, for the fifth time to drive by... I shot those five series with a grand total of just short of *forty* photographs of which this is the *one and only* acceptable one: not a ratio to be proud of, is it? Only here I see, as you say, crisp (and sharp) lines of the--washed for the occasion, as you've noticed--car, with the wheels and fore- as well as the background showing movement. A nearly complete failure, imo (a success only in so far as there is this single picture you, k2, and I like)! BTW: yes, I cropped *very slightly*, but only in order to get rid of a small strip of boringly uniform grey sky; the image's overall proportions were kept practically unchanged. The consolation: I brought a few nice *static* photos home. And I have acquired the knowledge that panning is not as easy as it seems; something *you* seem to have experienced already ;-). -- db.

Oh, you can trust me to analyze it to pieces. Happiness is looking at a Daniel Bollag picture ;)
To elaborate on "composition", I meant what I assumed everyone sees here; the use of lines, and how it all applies to the rule of thirds. I assume it's deliberate: Since the car was moving I suspect you may even have cropped it slightly to trim it to perfection. If not, this is even better than I initially thought. Excellent composition regardless, pleasing and easy to look at. And I do notice the well balanced exposure, saturation, light, and the fact that it looks like a panned shot. My own attempts at panning tend to end up with very.. umm... experimental looking results. Sometimes interesting - mostly disastrous.

Thank you, k2, for your kind words and your analysis of my image. I find it always interesting to "see" what elements of a picture I took appeal to someone else. -- db.

I really like this one. Composition, and the great contrasts between the crisp clear and shiny car versus the hazy field and foreground movement. Very good colors, also.
