Had to move this to Exhibition. I'll be out of town until the 13th so I wouldn't be able to host on the off chance that I won. Thanks for all the comments. Ann

Hi Victor and all. I see what you mean about the smoke. I think the problem is that it was moving faster than the shutter speed so looks fuzzy and out of focus while everything else is sharp. Not anything I did. Just how it came out when I took the shot. I felt so lucky to get this that I didn't mind the smoke at all. ;-) Ann

There's little to add to the other comments here. Colours, DOF, timing are all great. I wondered how war related images might be used in the challenge. I understand Victor's point about the smoke, to a degree, but for me the image manages to overcome it. Regards, -Najinsky

Something looks wrong about the top of the smoke. I find that it's about the only thing I look at, trying to figure it out. -- Victor

Wonderful timing of the action.

Thanks everybody. I guess I'm stretching the barrier here though I'm sure there is a psychological barrier between battling ships. Also the cannon is firing through a hole in the side of the boat... barrier perhaps? ;-)

Fantastic dynamic capture Ann, love the action here. Great colours, DOF and composition.

What a buzz? Love to have been there. ~ Regards Melbob

Yes, perfect timing! I love seeing the fire from the muzzle and from the fuse-hole like that. I'm also impressed with the exposure and dynamic range you've captured. The fire looks great against the dark shadows. Jim H.

Great timing and great color here, Ann...I'm not sure I see the border or barriers...but what the heck, a very nice action image. Best Wishes, Traveller
