It was an overcast morning threatening rain, so this is pretty much how it looked, except darker than this. I added some brightness, increased the contrast, and then decreased the saturation. No gradient, altho I painted in a bit more shadow on the left side. Cindy, wish I knew of a quaint little cafe that would hang this! ;-)

What an interesting arrangement of colours: from seemingly bw on the left to muted colours on the right. Is this how it looked in real life? Or is it some type of gradient bw filter...? Not that it matters, I just like the effect very much. Compliments and regards jnconradie
You're too funny! This door faces into an alleyway, and I've never seen anyone using it, so I was struck by the pair of shoes sitting there. Your story's as good as any I'd come up with.
